Palm wine is a local alcoholic drink native to Nigeria. It has a creamy and somewhat milky taste and texture. It also has a bitter sweet flavour. Most people buy it locally from palm wine tappers that extract it from the tree and ferment and purify it for human consumption. Until recently, you couldn't find branded versions but now there are companies that produce and market palm wine in bottles rather than the kegs that were previously used by those in the village. It has a similar alcohol content to beer and stout.
